ELPRO solves security surveillance in National Park

Client

LSR Solutions

Overview

Recently, LSR Solutons was awarded the security upgrade for a natonal park. The challenge was the large geographical area where the facilites were located. The security system consisted of not only surveillance but Access Control for buildings and gate controllers.

The challenge was the ability to update the systems throughout the park without having to physically go to the site. They had a company network but due to security issues we were not allowed to access the network.

The first installation utlized the ELPRO radios to be able to remotely open the gate approximately 200 meters from the camera view in the office. The camera allowed them to verify the person and then were able to remotely open the gate as well as updating the user’s credentials at the gate for those who had passcodes.

The next installation extended the network over another 200 meters to the Admin building where the PTZ camera is located. The last phase was across a lake 2.62 Km away to pick up the Theatre. This is where the camera back at the other building across the lake.

For this applicaiton LSR Solutions used the AXIS Q6124-E HDTV 720p with Sharpdome technology and Lighfinder due to its execptional quality and capability for outdoor camera suveillance capabilities.

About LSR Solutions

LSR Solutons Inc is a surveillance company in Canada specializing in the industrial market. They utilize the latest technology in network cameras providing reliable and usable video at a reduced ownership cost than traditional CCTV systems.

LSR Solutions is an “Axis Developer Partner” which allows them to fine tune the Axis cameras using zipstream to reduce the bandwidth of the cameras making them work with long range wireless radios like the ELPRO 945U-E Industrial Long Range Ethernet Modems.

The Solution

LSR Solutions uses ELPRO radios exclusively because they are a very durable radio.

They consistently use the ELPRO 945U-E radio for the following reasons:

  1. The 900 MHz frequency is better for outdoor because it is less susceptible to rain or fog. In this application it is especially important going across a lake.
  2. The direct sequence has helped installations where other radios in the area may cause regular radios to drop communication where we would just change the channel, we are using allowing no hardware change.
  3. The adjustment of the noise levels allowed us to cancel out networks in the area which were flooding our signal.
  4. The radios are fast. We did a crane application where the video had to keep up with the crane which had multiple radios existing in the area. LSR Solutions was able to have the video keep up with the crane movements.

Byron Plumptre from LSR Solutions:

When LSR Solutions is asked to do a wireless application, we will only use the ELPRO 945U-E. Other integrators use 2.4 GHz for a larger bandwidth.

LSR Solutions uses 900 MHz because there is better security which the IT people prefer it because we are not broadcasting their SSID. LSR Solutions have been called in to re-do a wireless system with 2.4 GHz because of the dropped communication due to weather issues. There is less bandwidth than the 2.4 GHz but with our cameras we can not only send video but IO as well with very little or no latency.

Customers have asked us to use lower cost radios, but we refused stating that it is us that will have to come back and trouble shoot the system so unless we use our ELPRO radios we will not be responsible for the wireless system.
